The Shetland Hotel, possibly built as a grand project in the ’60s, has seen better days. However, everything works. Rooms are large. The room plumbing has been recently renewed and is quiet. The double glazing insulates from the notorious weather and any noise from the nearby road. The staff are helpful. The free breakfasts with table service, good. Dinner is available to guests and could be welcome to those not wanting to drive to the town centre or walk the 15 minutes required. The hotel is literally 50 metres across the road from the Northlink ferry to Aberdeen. Carparking is on site, at no charge.

Steps away from the ferry terminal - very convenient for travellers on foot. We soon realized that travelling on foot or by public transportation was impossible - the staff hooked us up with an extremely cheap and flexible car hire for the day! Friendly, accommodating and helpful staff with great recommendations for wool wear shops and scenic routes to the cake fridges! Walkable to city centre and Commercial Street. Staff accommodated early arrival and held our bags until check in and later until the ferry arrived. Room was functional and comfortable. Breakfast was great with several cooked options.

Marion

Good choice of options for Breakfast. Evening dinner also available at separate cost with good choice and good size portions. Location of restaurant dining room overlooked the harbour so great for viewing whilst dining, even if your room didn't overlook this. Great walkable position overlooking the ferry terminal. Also on main bus route with bus stops just outside the hotel in each direction. Whilst some bus routes originate at the Viking bus station in Lerwick; approximately a 15 minute walk, some buses do stop at the hotel on the way back. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Had a suite which is very spacious but unfortunately only a double bed, it had 2 bathrooms but only one unlocked to use, aparantly the owner is going to refurbish soon & I suggested at least a king size bed & opening the 2nd bathroom as they are small. Food was excellent, staff very friendly & helpful, exceptionally clean, wonderful place to stay except some idiot decided to build a ferry terminal directly oposit....

Karen

Hotel was well cared for and very clean. Shields around the reception looked a little odd against the rest of the hotel, but it is the "Shetland Hotel" after all and I liked it. Staff were excellent, great attention to detail. I had to check in late and out early and they had the forethought to suggest I order dinner before arrival and put together a packed breakfast for my departure.
